Greetings
Dear all the honorable members of Korean Society of Echocardiography!
Hello?
After a cold winter, we finally have a spring filled with green sprouts, cherry blossoms, and energy of lives.
We are in the hopeful 2019 with a clue of the reconciliation after many difficulties at home and abroad were recently resolved one by one.
Even though it seems to be still a long way to go to solve all the problems, I hope that all of you put the best efforts and sincerity in this year without losing the flickers of hope.
I am so honored to be able to serve the honorable Korean Society of Echocardiography inheriting the great tradition as the vice-president for a year.
Since the foundation on February 15th 1993, the Korean Society of Echocardiography has the 26th anniversary this year, and has remarkably grown into an exemplary and leading society. For this eye-opening achievement, there have been devoted sacrifice and efforts of excellent elder members leading the society so far, and also passionate members. I sincerely thank you all for such great works, and we still have a duty to continue the vitality of endless growth in the future. Even though the current medical environment is in the tough position, we should have a keen insight and a courage to continuously overcome to make the great achievements.
This year, there are many current issues that our society is facing.
First, facing the entire health insurance coverage of echocardiography in two years in accordance with the government’s policy to expand the payment of ultrasound, we are working together with relevant societies to establish many systems for the echocardiography certification system operating since 2009, the prevention of abusive use of echocardiography, and the quality control of echocardiography.
Second, we are putting huge interest and efforts into many matters such as continuous and active exchanges with international academic societies, JCVI’s take-off for an international academic magazine, efforts to seek for changes to vitalize the academic value of the society workshop held in each quarter as a place for active academic discussions of members, support for diverse academic/research activities, fund-raising in developmental form, and expansive relocation of society bureau.
Your continuous interest and encouragement are essential for the continuous development of our society.
On top of asking for continuous support and encouragement, I like to thank you again for your devotion to the development of our society even when you are busy with many schedules like patient treatment and academic/research activities. I wish you the prosperity and success.
Thank you.
April 2019

New Year’s Greetings of Korean Society of Echocardiography 2019
In Millennium Seoul Hilton on January 7th 2019, the New Year’s Greetings of Korean Society of Echocardiography was held. Greeting the Year of the Pig in 2019, we had a great time to share words of blessing with great people. This year, Prof. Yu, Seung-Gi of Eulji University College of Medicine and Prof. Jeong, Hye-Moon of Kyung Hee University College of Medicine played a great violin-piano duet as a special performance. Just like the selected classical and pop music, it went well with the atmosphere of society respecting both tradition and change and also pursuing the harmony of them. We also had a chance to hear considerate words about the past path and future direction of society from teachers and senior professors, and also to share joyful memories in the past or to candidly share opinions about all sorts of current matters. The cordial mood was continued to the dinner time, and some people had drinks. In the last moment of the event, all the members were gathered to take commemorative photographs. Just like the wishes shared in the New Year’s Greetings, I hope that all the society members get happier this year.

KSE Cardiomyopathy Symposium 2019 & The 37th Workshop
On February 9th(Sat.) 2019 with cold breezes of the late winter, the KSE Cardiomyopathy Symposium 2019 & the 37th Workshop was held in Yugwangsa Hall of Korea University College of Medicine. This cardiomyopathy symposium was held in the connection with workshop for the first time. During the first session in the morning, there were excellent lectures on the progress of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, diastolic dysfunction, and differentiation from other hypertrophies. In the second session, there was a time to share the newest views on the roles of multimodality imaging in the approach to cardiomyopathy, with doctors of echocardiography, radiology, and nuclear medicine. In the afternoon, there was a workshop on the actual cases of cardiomyopathy. There were presentations on clinically-important cases and relatively-rare, but important cases by doctors from many hospitals. Many people felt fresh and helpful as they could review the newest views learnt from the morning symposium through the afternoon cases. Such academic events in the connection of symposium and workshop would be greatly helpful for many doctors in the future.
This event was more meaningful because it was also to congratulate the retirement of Prof. Sim, Wan-Joo of Korea University. During the symposium, we had a moment to present a flower bouquet to the professor and also to listen to her sentiments. The calm sentiments of the Prof. Sim, Wan-Joo who had silently walked along the path of a scholar were very impressive. Once again, I sincerely congratulate the retirement of Prof. Sim, Wan-Joo who has worked hard for the development of Korean Society of Echocardiography by performing many activities such as the president of Korean Society of Echocardiography, the president of Korean Society of Cardiology, and the president of Women’s Heart Disease Research Working Group. I wish her the infinite happiness.
