Greetings

Dear members of the Korean Society of Echocardiography, how are you?
I am Se-Joong Rim of Yonsei Univ. who will assume the position as the chief director for two years from 2018.
Our Society has been developing year after year with the work hard and continuous efforts of members and executives of the Society. We hold a fall conference every year as an international conference. In addition to exchanges with other academic organizations in Korea this year, we are also preparing joint sessions with major overseas academic societies such as AAE, ASE, EACVI, and JSE and are organizing programs for in-depth academic exchanges with a broader range of topics. In addition, the Society continues to hold and support society workshop three times a year, academic activities of research societies in various fields, community gatherings through branches We are to make continuous efforts to encourage active academic exchanges among members and to help members' research activities through these academic activities
From June 2018, the name of the journal will be changed from Journal of Cardiovascular Ultrasound (JCU) to Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging (JCVI). The new editorial board is working hard to become an international journal through thesis submission system and editorial board reorganization as well as title. Besides, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the hard work of many members in all the projects and activities of the Society, and I will do my best for the development of the Korean Society of Echocardiography with many executives, please show for your interest and active participation.
In addition, I would like to thank the former president, the former vice president, the former chief director, and all the executives who have led the Society well and made endless efforts.
Thank you.

August 2018

Sincerely,

Se-Joong Rim, College of Medicine, Hallym University, August 2018

2017 Annual Spring Scientific Conference of the KSC in conjunction with KSIC, KSE, and KSLA

The Spring Scientific Conference was held on April 20th and 21st when the sunshine was warm and it was not so hot yet although there is a lot of fine dust. This time, the conference was held at the Daejeon Convention Center (DCC). Unlike the conferences held in Busan or Gyeongju and Gwangju in 2014, it was held in Daejeon and I think that it would have been relatively easy for participants to participate in the conference from anywhere in Korea. As an integrated conference, it was an event that covered a very wide range of subjects over two days. On the 20th (Friday), the first day, useful sessions were held on arteriosclerosis, myocardial infarction, female heart, hypertension, heart failure treatment, cardiometabolic syndrome, smart healthcare and more. In particular, we had the opportunity to think about how to set the doctor's office blood pressure measurement method differently from now and the opportunity to broaden the understanding of the device therapy of hypertension, such as renal artery denervation while dealing with the actual procedure, and it was also very interesting to discuss how to overcome many difficulties that arise in the process with various topics despite trying to do guideline-direct medical therapy for heart failure. The sessions of our Society of Echocardiography include the session for echo-doppler evaluation of valvular disease and session for summarizing several valvular disease situations that are difficult to make decisions through several cases. In fact, I think that one of the most difficult things when performing echocardiography and treating patients is the evaluation and treatment of valvular regurgitation and that it is a meaningful place to listen to good lectures and cases as well as professors' comments. In addition, I am sure that detailed lectures and summary on LFLG severe AS and prosthetic valve evaluations would have been a very beneficial teaching to the many teachers who attended this conference.

On the 21st, lectures and discussions prepared by the Korean Society of Cardiology and 4 subdivisions (Korean Society of Echocardiography, Korean Society of Interventional Cardiology, Korean Heart Rhythm Society, Biomedical Engineering Society for Circulation) were held in total 6 conference rooms. The Korean Society of Echocardiography has prepared sessions titled 'Issues on Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy' and 'Educational Cases Diagnosed by Echocardiography'. In the hypertrophic cardiomyopathy session, there were the overall review of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, the usefulness of echocardiography in diagnosis, and in-depth lectures on the diseases to be distinguished, and finally, there was a lecture on Surgical Treatment of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy by Professor Wook Sung Kim of Sungkyunkwan Univ., Department of Thoracic Surgery. It was a very interesting and informative place for professors who work at local hospitals where cardiac surgery is not active to hear professor Kim's rich experience. The echocardiography case session was time like scratching the itchy part, which summarizes the always vague points through cases while looking at the ultrasound. Despite the last session on the 21st, it was an impressive session with lecturers' enthusiastic lectures and heated discussions of the panels. Although it was a conference only on cardiovascular disease among many diseases, various lectures of several subdivisions were held, and I even had to think about for a long time which classroom to enter because there are so many topics I want to listen to personally. Looking at the high ardor for study and participation rate of the participants, I think the future of Korean cardiology will be very bright

The 35th Korean Society of Echocardiography Workshop

On July 14, the 35th Korean Society of Echocardiography workshop was held at Cheongwoon Hall, Kyunghee University. Despite the incredibly hot weather, many professors, residents, and Sonographers from many hospitals nationwide participated, showing the passion to fill the spacious auditorium with no vacancy. Like other workshops, this workshop was also conducted with two main topics of "mass is always interesting!" and "life is tough with heart!", and it was a meaningful place to learn 12 cases, more than usual, while looking at the cases corresponding to each topic. Personally it took a few days to prepare myself for the presentation at the Korean Society of Echocardiography workshop because I was so cautious, but in all of the cases presented this time, I was able to feel the traces of hard work of many universities to prepare for the cases, including each lecturer. The most memorable of the many interesting cases is Erdheim-Chester disease, which has been presented continuously at Yonsei University College of Medicine and Seoul National University College of Medicine. In fact, all I remember is that it was only one of very rare histiocytosis, which is simply in books, and it was a disease that I never actually encountered, and the lecturers of the two universities summarized the cases and reviews clearly, and I was able to summarize the contents through the comments of several professors including chair Dae-Won Sohn, Professor Se-Joong Rim and others. As shown above, I think that the place where we encounter actual cases and the best scholars in Korea present their opinions, rather than simply acquiring knowledge through textbooks, is a meaningful experience that we cannot get from anywhere else. As always in the Korean Society of Echocardiography workshop, I think that it is the pride of our Society of Echocardiography that there is a place where many professors and teachers from all over the country come together to discuss difficult cases and promote friendship among members. I hope that many members will gather to make interesting presentations and enjoyable discussions in the 36th workshop to be held at the Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital on September 29th
