Greetings
How are you doing all members of Korean Society of Echocardiography?
It is my pleasure and honor to make a greeting to all members of Korean Society of Echocardiography at the time when the spring has finally come after the very cold winter and our mind and body have been revitalized again to prepare for the new leap. I first came across the echocardiography in 1987 when I was in a second year of resident of internal medicine. When I first saw the M-mode, 2D Echo and the Dropper technique which was newly installed to it although they were not as good as current equipment, I was so much attracted to the echocardiography. So, I wrote a paper which was designed to obtain the area of valve for the patients having mitral stenosis that I was so much happy. Meanwhile the studies using the echocardiography have been developed in a surprising speed and has played the essential role in determining the diagnosis, cure and prognosis of not only the heart diseases but also other diseases. In addition, Korean Society of Echocardiography has been developed with a lot of members becoming the members of the Society. With the contributions made by a lot of senior professors, smart and young professors and all members, the Society has positioned itself as the global player. But as there are a lot of new things appearing with a speed of light along with new terms appearing such as artificial intelligence, big data, virtual reality and precision medicine, we are now facing another task of predicting and preparing for the future based on our knowhow and power accumulated up to now. I think that to achieve the development which surpasses our current position not only in the academic field but also the national medicine and world medicine, we need the followings; the leadership of president Seung Woo Park and chairman Wan Kim, the valuable experience and advices of senior professors, the challenging mind of our young professors and the cooperation and support by all members. I will also make effort to support the Society. I hope that Korean Society of Echocardiography keeps prospering and all of you keep good health.

2018 Congratulatory ceremony of Korean Society of Echocardiography
In commemoration of new year 2018, I have attended the new year congratulatory ceremony of Korean Society of Echocardiography held in Atrium, Millennium Seoul Hilton Hotel on Jan. 8, 2018. There was Kumho Building in the way from Seoul Station to Millennium Seoul Hilton Hotel and there were the art works of David Gerstein (1944 ~) on the underground floor and 1st floor of this building. I appreciated the works. This artist is a world famous painter making the cubic works as he uses the drawing technique called the cut-out, in which the painter draws a thing on the paper and do the computer work on the drawing and then using it, he cuts the steel with laser and color it. Most of his works are bright and happy that they make people feel good. I visited the Hilton Hotel early and had good conversation with staff members of the Society and professors one by one asking how they were doing during the cold winter times and having fun. I had good time as the secretary introduced to me the guest that I could have conservation with the senior professor. Unlike the last year when there were big political issues, the main topics this year were on the special laws on the resident doctors and the disappearance of special diagnosis system. After having the meal, I had to take the schedule training back to home. So, I went to Seoul Station. I felt that if more professors had visited the event, the event would have been happier and better. I hope that next year more professors participate in the event.

2nd valve summit Korea was held on Jan. 5 and 6 of this year sponsored by Heart Hospital, Asan Hospital and led by Researcher Center of Valvular Heart Disease at a small auditorium on 6th floor, Asan Hospital. This meeting was a good opportunity for basic researchers, cardiology doctors and the thoracic and cardiovascular surgeons who operate the patient having heart problems to communicate with each other. This year, Professor Marc Dweck of Edinburgh University of Great Britain was invited and the various imaging examinations on the calcification of semilunar valve were talked about. Professor Jae-Kwan Song presented the basic researches on how to reduce the calcification of semilunar valve and the presentation helped us to get the curiosity on the subject and passion for more studies.

34th Workshop by Korean Echocardiography Society
There was the first 2018 workshop for Korean Echocardiography Society at Wonkwang University in Feb. 3, 2018. The workshop focused on two main topics. The first topic was the echocardiography in systemic disease while the another topic was echocardiography in cardiovascular diseases with 4 cases as examples. At the coffee break time, there was the talk made by retiring professor Jin-Won Jeong and there was the time for Kagoshima Brothers to grant the appreciation plaque to him. The last case put all participants in a maze and a lot of discussions were made with everyone forgetting even the elapse of time. The conversion was continued. even in the dinner time The dinner time was also filled with our talks on life. But the time came for us to part. On my way home, the words which Professor Jin-Won Jeong often emphasized kept remained on my mind. “Stay hungry, Stay foolish.”.
