Greetings
I already made a greeting message in the website of Korean Society of Echocardiography, but I would like to do it again. It has been 24 years since Korean Society of Echocardiography was founded. Until now, our society has made remarkable growth and development recognized by both ourselves and others. We have made inner progress as well. The journal of our society, whose first issue was published in July of 1993, made continuous progress, and from 2004, it started to be published in English, and from 2006, it was published as Journal of Cardiovascular Ultrasound, an English magazine. Soon after, it was listed on Pubmed Central and SCOPUS, which are worldwide paper search programs, and now it is ready to be listed on SCI(E). In addition to this academic growth, Korean Society of Echocardiography holds academic conferences and workshop regularly for development of Korea’s medical system, and from 2009, it has implemented the system of echocardiography certification and the guideline establishment committee, which are the efforts to improve clinical levels of echocardiography. The annual certification test has been established as an important system to cultivate echocardiography certification of high standard by certifying qualifications. On September 23, 2017, the 73rd regular board meeting was held in Jeju University, where there was an activity report of the committee and the research society on major issues of our society and current issues along with discussion. In the afternoon, the 33rd workshop of Korean Society of Echocardiography was successfully held. I observed many young researchers make presentations of cases that they experienced in various hospitals and clinics throughout the country. I think a study is developed through mutual interchange as small and big streams form a big river. While observing heated presentations and debates of young researchers who will lead our society, I was certain that our society will develop and grow even more.
Lastly, I will do my best for development of our society helping Chairman Seung Woo, Park and other directors for the rest of my term even if it's only in a small way. I wish all of you members well.

On September 23, 2017, the 33rd Workshop of Korean Society of Echocardiography was held in Ara Convention Hall of Jeju National University. The themes of this workshop were Cardiac Fever(the senior persons present : Professor Seung Jae Joo, Professor Se-Joong Rim) and Independently and Collaboratively(the senior person present : Sang-Chol Lee, In-ho Jo (professors of department of nuclear medicine at Yeungnam University Medical School). The workshop was divided into two sessions, and 10 cases for each session were presented along with profound discussion and academic exchange.

2. 2017 Echo Chosun WorkshopWorkshop
In October, when it was getting chilly, 2017 Echo Chosun Workshop was held as usual in Chosun University Hospital, Gwangju. In “Echo Chosun”, also known as Echo Chosun Hands-on Workshop (ECHO), hands-on session was held together as the name indicates, so many local doctors directly tried and tested echo-machines and heard explanations, which is the only opportunity for the local doctors. In addition, many of local elder doctors participated. During the first session, Professor Soon-Pyo Hong and Professor Jong Chun Park, who work locally, joined as the senior persons present, and during the latter session, Jin-Won Jeong, Wan Kim, Kyoung-Sig Chang and Sang Ki Cho were the senior persons present. After the opening address, such professors as Yong-Jin Kim, Geu-Ru Hong, Seung Woo Park, Jae-Hyeong Park and Wook-Jin Chung made lucid and valuable lectures as usual. Especially in this workshop, the whole latter session was assigned to basic subjects such as the principles of echocardiography, basic cross-sectional diagram and drawing up results. Thanks to high participation rate of experienced professors, at ‘Meet The Experts’ session by Professors Dae-Won Sohn, Jae-Kwan Song and Jong-Won Ha, the experienced professors pointed out parts that we could have overlooked with their acuteness by long experiences. In addition, we could listen to excellent lectures of Seung Woo Park and Tae Ho Park, who we mostly met as the senior persons present.

3. The 43rd Annual Scientific Meeting of Korean Society of Echocardiography
From November 25 to 26, 2017 at Grand Walkerhill Seoul, KSE 2017 was successfully held despite the bad weather on the first day. This academic conference was divided into Session for Beginners, Session for Experts and Highlight Session, so participants could intuitionally choose sessions that they want among many sessions. Highlight Session was full of joint sessions, and at the joint session with EACVI and JSE, there were profound lectures and discussions on the latest views of 3D Echo and Strain. At the joint session with AAE, lectures about Viability Imaging and Dyssyncrhony were done. At the joint session with KSIC, there was an active discussion on the role of imaging examination including echocardiography with Catherine M. Otto regarding TAVR, which is prevalent recently. The most interesting session to me was Diastology Session. While applying a new guideline in the echo lab, I was curious about working-level things and the background of establishing the guideline. The lecture satisfied my curiosity.

4. The 43rd Annual Scientific Meeting of Korean Society of Echocardiography
On November 25 and 25, 2017, the 43rd Annual Scientific Meeting of Korean Society of Echocardiography was held at Grand Walkerhill Seoul. The conference was composed of various interesting subjects, so audiences in various occupations and fields could listen to lectures that they wanted. In this 43rd Annual Scientific Meeting of Korean Society of Echocardiography, total 16 Highlight Sessions were prepared including 6 sessions performed with academic exchange societies, recent issues of Hot Issue in Valvular Heart Disease, Diastoligy and Cardiomyopathy, and Cardio-oncology session. At the Valvular Heart Disease session on the first day, there was a discussion on echocardiography evaluation of aortic valve disease, and on the second day, there were lectures on functional mitral valve, tricuspid regurgitation, the treatment of tricuspid regurgitation after left valve surgery and evaluation of prosthetic mitral valve malfunction. The exchange session with EACVI and JSE on the first day consisted of extensive subjects, but 3D ultrasound related contents accounted for half the session, from which I could realize the increasing application and interest in 3D ultrasound. On the second day, there were sessions for beginners(Basic Review Course) all day at Room 4. The Basic Review Course attracted so many audiences like last year that some people couldn’t find seats. I could feel the reality of increasing interest in echocardiography at the medical field due to expansion of insurance coverage in ultrasound. Lastly, a session of Unforgettable Case in My Life by experienced doctors in Korean Society of Echocardiography received good feedbacks like last year.

5. Echo Seoul and Cardiac Imaging 2017
From December 1 to December 3, 2017, Echo Seoul and Cardiac Imaging 2017 was held at ASAN Medical Center hosted by Seoul National University Hospital. It was held in September until last year, but it was scheduled in December, which was held only 1 week after Annual Scientific Meeting of Korean Society of Echocardiography. However, many people still participated in the event. Professor Namsik Chung in Yonsei University Medical School, who will retire next year, handed down an insight for the future along with the development process of cardiovascular system disease treatment and cardiac angiography for the last 30 years through his lecture “The road I followed for the last 30 years…”. In the lecture materials, there were photos of Namsik Chung, Dae-Won Sohn and Jae-Kwan Song when they were young, which made audiences laugh, and it reminded some of their colleagues of their memories. After the lecture was over, the three professors took a commemorative photograph, which gave me mixed emotions of respect, envy and willpower because the scene was overlapped with their old picture taken 20 or 30 years ago.
