Greeting
Our society has developed into an educational society where discussions on the case-based echocardiographic images are shared not only through the autumn/spring symposiums, but also through the periodic workshops. As a result, in addition to cardiologists participating in the society-related activities, the primary care physicians, medical residents, medical fellows, medical nurses and medical technicians are actively participating in the society-related activities as well. In addition, in comparison to other societies, our society sets more of an exemplary model not only through organically managing our well-organized committee and research group, but also through maintaining a close and friendly relationship between elder members and young members. Our society stably runs the echocardiologist certification system in which the primary care physicians participate, and, thereby, contributes to providing systematic education on echocardiography and maintaining high quality echocardiographic images. In the global aspect, the Korean theses that are being reported through the global symposiums and related academic journals, such as American Society of Echocardiography and European Society of Echocardiography, are just as good as any others both in quantity and quality. In the future, I promise to do my best to cooperate with various senior and junior executives, so that Korean Society of Echocardiography can make significant progress.

KSE News
1. KSC Spring Cardiovascular Symposium/15th~26th April 2016/HICO, Gyeongju - KSC Spring Cardiovascular Symposium 2016 is co-hosted by The Korean Society of Cardiology, Korean Society of Echocardiography and Korean Society of Interventional Cardiology, and the 8th Asia-Pacific Heart Failure Symposium was held during the symposium period as well. Although various societies were gathered to cover diverse topics, as represented by the slogan stating “one heart, one life”, the symposium proved that our interest in and passion for cardiovascular diseases are one. During the symposium period, Korean Society of Echocardiography ran a total of four sessions in two days, and the sessions covered the issues and updates on myocardial/pericardial diseases and related cases as well as the issues and updates on valves/aorta and related cases. Each session was so successful that the packed audience had no place to seat. In this symposium, there was awkwardness as well as mistakes since a new rating system was introduced. However, all procedures were comparatively smoothly processed. In the early morning of the second day, a big earthquake which outbroke in Japan hit the regions of Gyeongju, but not a single accident occurred.
2.10th Yeongnam Clinical Echocardiography Lecture/19th June 2016/Auditorium, 7th Floor, Luke Building, Catholic University of Daegu School of Medicine
- 10th Yeongnam Clinical Echocardiography Lecture which was cancelled last year due to MERS was held in the auditorium at Catholic University of Daegu School of Medicine on 19th June 2016. The lecture given based on the last 10 years of experience and know-how was praised by the audience. The lecture was so full of passion that the audience in the auditorium ran out of seat. In particular, many primary care physicians and medical residents from the Yeongnam regions who are interested in echocardiography but were usually unable to participate in the lectures participated in this lecture. In the morning, the three sessions covered the basics of echocardiographic inspection, cardiac function evaluation and valvular/ischemic diseases. In the lunch session, a lecture on cardiac magnetic resonance imaging as well as on surgical treatment for tricuspid regurgitation was given. In the afternoon, a lecture on the role of echocardiography based on diverse cases specialized for the medical residents was given, and this successfully attracted the interest of the medical residents and primary care physicians. The final quiz session served as a good opportunity to estimate the skills of the participants since the medical residents and sonographers correctly solved all the problems that were anticipated by the quiz writers to be difficult for the medical residents to solve.
3. 29th KSE Workshop/2nd July 2016/Auditorium, CNU Hospital
On 2nd July 2016, 29th KSE Workshop was successfully held based on the geographical advantages of Daejeon as well as the passion among various doctors for echocardiography. A heated discussion on 12 cases collected within the nation went on. In particular, in the unusual events in common practice session, a heated discussion shared among seniors contributed to acquiring diverse views and understandings on echocardiography. In the second session, by setting the role of echo in differential diagnosis and treatment as the topic, it was able to once again confirm the strength of echocardiography which allows not only the ultrasonic waves to be used for considering other causes although the opinion can be comparatively frequently experienced, but also the symptoms to be observed while providing care. Through this session, it was confirmed that echocardiography still plays an important role in the multi-modality imaging era.
4. 1st Cardiology-Oncology Meeting/16th July 2016/The Catholic University of Korea St. Mary’s Hospital
On 16th July, 1st Cardiology-Oncology Meeting was held at The Catholic University of Korea St. Mary’s Hospital. Despite the heavy summer rainfall, various doctors from various regions attended the meeting and had an enthusiastic discussion on the cardiac diseases that the tumor patients suffer from. Currently, in Korea, under the circumstance where the number of tumor patients is increasing and the treatment for such patients is changing rapidly, the cardiologists are required to use various anticancer drugs as well as to discover and treat the cardiac diseases caused by the tumor itself. In the previous meeting, every session was extended due to a number of questions and discussions. In US, the cardiology-oncology field has been planning a fellowship. Europe and other nations are paying more and more attention to the cardiology-oncology field as well. The meeting held on that day was very meaningful since the hemato-oncologists also attended and provided us with an understanding on the overall oncotherapy.
